Bringing Down the Butcher of Prague: The Assassination of Reinhard Heydrich

August 9 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Because the weather was less than ideal on May 17 when we originally held this program, it is being presented again for those who were unable to make it on that date. We hope you’ll join us for this!

May 27, 2017, was the 75th anniversary of one of the most daring (and controversial) episodes of WWII espionage – the killing of top Nazi official Reinhard Heydrich.

Examining the political and military context of this act of Czech resistance, code-named Operation Anthropoid, this presentation discusses the details of who planned it, who approved it, who carried it out, and its consequence.

The talk also highlights locations in Prague memorializing the men who sacrificed their lives, as well as how this dramatic story has been retold in film. This program will be presented by Dr. Robinson Yost and Dr. Laura Yost, professors of history at Kirkwood Community College. The talk will be followed by Q&A.
